Nail Polish Jewellery Tutorial by Kim

Create rings and pendants to match your nail polish

You can make jewellery with glass cabochons or round glass pebbles (normally used as vase fillers)

Supplies:

25mm glass cabochons an25mring blanks
Antique bronze pendant tray
Round glass pebbles and ring blanks with pads
E6000 glue

Suppliers:
Pendant trays, 25 mm ring blanks, ring blanks with pad, 25 mm glass cabochons, E6000 glue - Jasmin Studio Crafts
Glass pebbles - Matalan, The range, discount shops

Instructions
1Paint the back of glass cabochon with clear top coat of nail polish and leave to dry.

Tip: work in reverse to painting your nails

2Paint a crackle coat or glittery coat of nail polish. Leave to dry.

3Paint on base coat in contrasting colour to crackle effect or second layer of glitter nail polish.

4Seal with a last layer of base coat to prevent colour seeping through

Tip: the glass must be sealed and dry before the item can be used as jewellery.

5. Once the back of glass is dry you can turn it into a pendant, brooch or ring. Apply strong jewellery glue, e.g. E6000 glue with a toothpick to pendant tray or ring blank. Leave to dry for 24 hours.

Tip: hold the glass and ring blank firmly together with a clothes peg and leave them face down to prevent bubbles

Using vase filler pebbles

These are an inexpensive way to start and if you get hooked on making nail polish jewellery you can upgrade to slightly more expensive glass cabochons.

You will notice that the glass pebbles are all different shapes and may not have a completely smooth surface. Using a clear coat of nail varnish before starting really improves the surface clarity.

You wont be able to find matching pendant trays or ring blanks to fit the pebble sizes so I recommend using ring pads. These can be glued to the back of almost any size pebble.
